Topping D10 FLAC

Equipment / Electronics / Gear / Accessories [Official] DACs

I think the d10 would be an improvement over the dac x6 as it would be cleaner and more refined, slightly cleaner than the k3, I think the zen might have the superior dac but the Zen is a warmer dac, and the btr5 and up4 don’t have a line out, so if you wanted to use it as a dac you would have to double amp which isn’t ideal

I agree. D10, Zen DAC and BTR5 all have high praise. I’ve only heard the D10 and it is solid, especially given it’s price.

Although I personally didn’t like the D30. I’m not sure if it just Cirrus DAC chips and/or the way they are implemented, but they always sound bass light, bright, and very compressed sounding to me.

I had the dac x6 and now im using onboard. So sure the D10 will be a noticable upgrade from onboard line out to my LS

Currently am selling my Topping D10. If anyone is interested, please dm me.

I have much higher end gear now and I have no use for the D10 currently [recently purchased a Bifrost 2].

I am currently powering my dt880 250 ohm off of a e10k, and I just got a liquid spark waiting for me at home. I was wondering how much of an improvement the d10 would be over the e10k used purely as a DAC to a liquid spark. I don’t want the stack to get too warm, so preferably I’d like a neutral or bright-ish DAC since the liquid spark is already warm.

I had that same upgrade path you haave. currently rocking the d10 and liquid spark and compared to the dac output of my e10k I experienced better dynamics, cleaner, and a slight power improvement.

And would this also be noticeable when the source is Spotify? I can’t hear the differences in audio quality so I’m not going to bother with getting FLAC files and streaming everything in hi-res. There is that test with like 6 songs in 128kbps, 320kbps and lossless, and I got 1 out of 6 right, 3 of them even guessing the 128kbps version

.

There is a difference at least to my ears I also use Spotify a lot.

Listen to the cymbals. On 128kbps they sound like… distorted christmas bells or something like that. Also listen to the bass and sub-bass. Weaker and less detailed on 128kbps songs. Beyers are somewhat V-shaped, and well regarded, so I guess they’re the best [inexpensive] headphones for you to hear the difference.

With random songs you don’t know it might be harder and you might just be like “well, the recording is like that”… but no, cymbals aren’t supposed to sound like maracas

It’s not hideous either. Mp3 does an excellent job of compressing the files to like 1/10th without… removing 90% of the music off it. Quite the opposite, like 10%, dare I say. Currently listening to an album I only got in 128kbps

I want the CD but still listenable obviously.

Hey guys just a quick one. How would a Schiit Bifrost v1 compare to lets say a topping E30?

Hi Guys so I received my D10 today but im battling to get it working 100%. I did set it to 32bit 384Khz in windows and now expect the digital display to change according to the input quality. And spotify just refused to play anything. Just gave an error. Im now down to 24 196, And whether I play something on Spoify or a Master track on Tidal it just stays at the set 192. Any idea on how this can be fixed. Would really like to see the difference in bit rate as I go from something low to a higher end recording.
Thanx

Most software and OS have issues at 32 bit, you aren’t going to be playing anything at 32 bit either so I wouldn’t worry about it, just use 24 bit

This isn’t going to be possible with spotify since it has no exclusive mode, but with tidal you should be able to set up an exclusive mode in the settings [but be aware that an exclusive mode will mute everything but tidal]. You will only see the display change depending on the track when you have an exclusive mode like asio or wasapi and can bypass windows or your os audio and the software can directly interact with the dac. So for most programs it will just stay at what you set it to in the os and not change, if you want it to change you need to use an exclusive mode and not many things support that

I needed something to reproduce liquid music to my Revox system [a76, a77 & a78]. I used an old asus vc60 with Daphile streaming music out of its 3.5mm jack. When this DAC arrived it changed my world! I am no audiophile and I lack in the correct vocabulary, so I'll say that its like watching a poster when you were used to look at a postcard. Everything sound bigger [not louder, but wider], sounds are more clear and distinguishable. To me it's a new listening experience. Very good product, I'm afraid I cannot listen to music without it from now on!
