Amazon wishlist public

Amazon wish lists are a great way to decide on the right gift to get your loved one or a colleague for an occasion. I wrote about Amazon Wish Lists a few months ago in How to Find Someone’s Wish List on Amazon.

In that article, I shared steps to locating a wish list on Amazon, how to create your own Amazon Wish List and how to share it with people.

This article will be covering the most FAQ about Amazon Wish Lists so pull up your gift guide organizer for notes.

Amazon Wish List FAQ

1. How do I Look Up Someone’s Wishlist on Amazon?

Go to your Amazon page HERE. You will see 3 tabs at the top for your lists, your idea lists, and your friend’s list.

Your friend needs to share it with you so you can use the Friend’s List tab to send an email to request access to the Wish List.

You can view step-by-step screenshots for how to do that HERE.

2. How Do Amazon Wish Lists Work?

Amazon Wish List helps you to curate items that you would like to receive as gifts or purchase for yourself in the future.

Your Wish List can be set to public, which allows anyone with a link to access it.

You can also send an email with the link to anyone to access the list.

Unless specified, wish lists are usually public and anyone with a link can have access to it. Who would access your wish list?

Someone looking for ideas of what to get you for an occasion or the kind of things you like so they can DIY a gift for you.

3. Are Amazon Wish Lists Anonymous?

You can make your list anonymous by changing the privacy settings. You can also restrict access to the Wish ListYou can set your Amazon Wish List to:-

  • Public [anyone can find it]
  • Private [only you can see it] or
  • Shared [anyone with the link can see it]

You can change your privacy settings under the “more” tab. You can view screenshots for this at How to Find Someone’s Wish List on Amazon.

4. How Do You Know if Someone Purchased Something on your Amazon Wish List?

When someone makes a purchase from your Wish List, you will receive a notification unless you have selected to set up a spoiler alert.

A spoiler alert prevents you from buying something off your list by mistake and you won’t know someone purchased something from your Wish List until the gift arrives.

5. Can You Have Multiple Wish Lists on Amazon?

You can have as many Wish Lists as you want on Amazon. There’s no limit. You can create a Wish List for every occasion.

You can even create a Wish List for other retailers like eBay and Target right on Amazon.

6. Can I Hide My Address on My Amazon Wish List?

Your address is private on your Wish List. When someone buys you something, the only information that will pop up is your name and city.

Your full address will never show up when someone buys a gift from your Wish List.

However, you should take note of the “third-party shipping agreement” option. If you select this option, it means people can shop your Wish List with other retailers that are not on Amazon.

In this case, Amazon will share your address with those retailers and they may reveal the address to the buyers.

To prevent this, go under More -> Manage list and de-select that option.

7. Can I Find Out What’s in an Amazon Package Without Opening It?

In case you’re not sure about a gift you receive, you can find out what’s inside before opening it.

You need the Amazon App for this. Tap the camera button and select the Package X-Ray feature.

You can then scan the barcode and the app will tell you what’s inside.

This is how it works on an iPhone but you should be able to do the same thing across different phones.

8. Does Amazon Remove Items from my Wish List?

Once a purchase is made from your Wish List, Amazon automatically hides the item to prevent duplicate purchases.

The item only stays on your list if you opted for multiples of the same item. You can go back and retrieve the list of the purchased items later on.

The item also stays on your list if you don’t uncheck the “Keep purchased items on this list” box when setting up the Wish List.

In this scenario, the item will remain on your list with the date it was purchased indicated next to it.

9. Can I Add Items from Other Retailers to My Amazon Wish List?

You can add items from other retailers like Nordstrom, eBay, Target, Sally Beauty, etc with the Amazon Assistant browser extension.

Whenever you come across something you like, click the extension to add it to your Amazon Wish List.

Check out Amazon Assistant browser extension and download HERE.

10. How Do Amazon Public Wish Lists Work?

A public Amazon wish list means anyone can find the wish list. You don’t have to send them an invite before they can access the wish list.

If they know your Amazon profile name or email address, they can find your list.

To change the list to private so only the people you invite can see it, go to More -> Manage List -> Privacy and select your preferred setting.

11. What Does Default List on Amazon Mean?

Amazon Wish Lists are public by default. You have to go into settings to make it private or shared.

Wish Lists can be organized via the “Filter & Sort” option. Wish Lists can be organized by purchased, unpurchased, price, and priority.

You can also use the search bar next to “Filter & Sort” to search for anything on the Wish List if it’s a large one.

14. How Do I Edit My Amazon Wish List?

You can edit your list via the “More” button. Click on “Manage List” and make any changes to the settings.

You can make changes to individual items via the item. You can add a comment, modify the quantity, or indicate the priority of the gift.

You can also move the item to a different Wish List or delete it.

16. Can I Use Alexa With My Amazon Wish List?

With an Alexa-enabled device like Amazon Echo, Echo Show, etc, you can manage all your lists with Alexa.

Just tell Alexa to add something and she will add it to the “Wish List”. You can also ask Alexa to read back the items on your Wish List.

Alexa can also notify you if any of the items on your wish list are on sale or there’s a special deal.

If you only want Alexa to add items, then you need to disable the option to notify you of deals on the Alexa shopping notifications page

To enable the option to use Alexa with your wish list, head over to More -> Manage -> and select your preferred option under “Manage list with Alexa.”

17. Can An Organization Have An Amazon Wish List?

Organizations such as non-profits can have a wish list on Amazon. Organizations can add products and services they need to support their work to the wish list and send it out to patrons.

An organization’s wish list is shareable and can be managed the same way as individual wish lists.

To set a list up for an organization, head over to Accounts & Lists -> Create a List. Give the list a name to create it.

Once created, hover over More and click on Manage list. Under the pop-up that appears, you can choose Organization under who the list is for.

All gifts from this list will be shipped to your organization’s address. At this time, there’s no option to set items from a wish list to be shipped to multiple recipients.
