Can people see secret playlists if you share them?

Trying to keep your music taste to yourself? Here's how to keep your playlists private.

Private playlists have a variety of uses, from keeping your personal and sometimes embarrassing songs to yourself ... to your top selections for upcoming artists you have your eye on.Private playlists remain private, until you share the link. Once this has happened anyone with the link has access, which means also anyone can get the data from Spotify's API. There’s little we can do about it this as the data comes from Spotify.

To help remove old unused [and private] playlists from Chartmetric we implemented a code to delete playlists from the database, when we detect that the playlist is not accessible any longer.

If you still have concerns you could make a new private playlist, move your songs there and delete the songs in the other playlist, followed by deleting the old playlist. Once you have done this be sure not to share the link and your playlist should stay private.

Well, agree or not but most of us prefer to have our music collection, something that’s private which we don’t wish to share with our friends or anyone who grabs our phone to play music. There are individual tracks that we prefer to listen to while we’re alone while enjoying our “Me-time” sessions. Isn’t it? Yes, there are always a set of songs that you feel embarrassed about, or when you think your friends are going to judge you over it.

So, yes, to save you from all this embarrassment, Spotify offers you a feature where you can add songs to your “Secret Playlist” that stays hidden and is only accessible by you.

To make a playlist secret, here’s what you need to do:

Pick any of your playlist which you need to hide, and then tap the three-dot icon to open options.

Any playlists that you create on Spotify are set as “Public” by default which means anyone can access it. If you want to change this setting, head on to Settings> Social and disable “Automatically make new Playlists public” option.

How Private are “Secret Playlists”?

So, how private are secret playlists on Spotify? Is there any hack to access Secret Playlists? Well, don’t be disheartened but the “Secret Playlists” option is just an illusion that Spotify creates to hide a specific playlist from your account. If you’re ready to do a little hard work and dig deep into settings, then you can also get access to anybody’s secret playlist. If your friend knows your username, then they can access all your playlists by navigating to open.spotify.com/user/

Are you looking forward to using the secret playlists on Spotify? Do you think this option is a savior that can save you from your friend’s judgments about your music taste? Hit the comment box and let us know what you think.

So with the new update that changed the UI Spotify has also removed the ability to share a playlist and have that playlist stay private. When you go to share a private playlist it now gives you a popup that has you turn the playlist to public and it then warns that it will revoke access to the playlist if you try switch it back to private. What possible benefit can come from this??? Like how does it make sense to take away an obviously very useful feature thats been around for years now. Everyone I know with premium that used it regularly. Do they just plan to make the app less user friendly with every update?
