BY ANIKA LJUNG JUNE 27, 2022 Hedi Slimane continues his rich legacy as a progressive leader in menswear as he presented Celine’s latest men’s collection last night at the Palais De Tokyo in Paris. Twenty years prior, the year the contemporary art center opened, Slimane held his Dior Fall/Winter 2002 Men’s show within its walls, codifying his appreciation for art deco and monumental architecture. Over the weekend, the iconic Parisian museum space was filled to the brim with the show’s star-studded guest list for Celine’s Spring/Summer 2023 Menswear show, including house ambassador Lisa from Blackpink, Kim Tae-hyung, and many more. Complemented with an original score by Gustaf, an indie band from New York, the Celine Spring/Summer 2023 runway was infiltrated by sharp tailoring and linear silhouettes. An air of punk was apparent as glistening silver and sparkling gold embellishments met solids of black, white, red, and neutrals. Fringe detailing hung loosely from long sleeves, leather jackets were studded with metal and adorned by pockets, and slim bottoms were met with distressed cuffs. From archival suits to sleek trench coats to knitted cardigans, Slimane’s meticulous approach to design was reflected in his recognizable aesthetic as he built upon his repertoire while exploring a new wave of culture and youth.
