Excellent tire!

5

Recently I have been riding with the newer Continental GP 5000 tires. Compared with the GP 4000 tire I have to say I am dissapointed with the newest version. My issue with the newer 5000 tires is that they tend to wear and tear quite easily on the sides of the tire. I never had these issues with the GP 4000 tires and will switch to those instead when training. The GP 4000 are exactly what I need; long lasting during the season and very durable yet still with good grip when cornering f.ex. Stick with GP 4000 and don't use the 5000's for your training rides. They may be lighter than the 4000's but they lack when it comes to durability and will sooner or later crack on the sides. :]

Great tyres..... The best to date

The 4000's are fantastic tyres. A year's cycling with no flats; that is a first for me, considering the poor road conditions. The tyres afford great grip confidence in all weathers. With the arrival of the new 5000's, these tyres are great value for money. Highly recommended.

I have been riding these tires forever and have had practically no flats. Can count the flats on one hand. Light and responsive. Excellent value for the investment. Give them a try, you won’t regret it!🚴🏻🚴🏻🚴🏻🚴🏻🚴🏻🚴🏻

I love the Conti GP 4000 as they roll well and have a level of flat resistance that is required in Central Australia with the amount of glass and three corner Jacks that we have out here.

Great tyres

Been looking at these tyres for a while, but needed a new set to get me through the autumn. I am very impressed, as they were easy to fit, and feel significantly better than my previous tyres - more grip, and smooth rolling.

Great tires. I've been riding them for several months now.The Black Chili compound is grippy. Haven't had occasion to ride them in wet weather yet, but I will assume they are going to grip just fine. The roll extremely fast, and at 25mm width and inflated to around 90 PSI they're cushy as well.

I've had no issues with the chunking and slices others have posted. I think these are plenty durable. I'm a sport rider, not a racer or commuter, and I think they're durability is perfectly acceptable. No flats.

Also, FYI, the "divots" others have commented on are wear indicators.

I had no issues installing these on a set of Alex rims, though I did use levers to get them on, which I typically do anyway.

These tires really are awesome. The ride is smooth and pretty comfortable for 25c, they're reasonably light, reasonably low rolling resistance, super grippy, and reasonably puncture resistant! Not sure what else to say, I love them and will most likely buy them again for training / general riding. I raced my first race with them too and had no issues, but will probably look for lower rolling resistance tires for racing in the future and just risk getting more flats. For general riding though, they are the best!

With the Global success of the Continental GP4000s, you would be forgiven for thinking that the German tyre experts would have a hard job coming up with a road bike tyre that would out-shine this fantastically popular tyre. So they have introduced the imaginatively named Continental GP4000s II.

Is it a different tyre?

Well if we are honest, the Continental GP 4000s II still uses the same ground-breaking technology as it's predecessor. It is still made from Continentals revolutionary BlackChili compound rubber. For those that read our GP4000s review, BlackChili is a polymer rubber containing nanometric carbon soot particles. The result is increased grip, less rolling resistance and high wear mileage. The 4000s II Also retains the Vectran Breaker. This is the Thermoplastic fabric layer claimed to be five times stronger than steel and layed directly under the tread for puncture protection.

So what is new?

Continental seem to have picked up on the area's they may have been missing out on with the previous tyre. The Continental GP4000s II now comes in a wider range of sizes and colours.[table id=2 /]The GP4000s was always categorized as a performance all-rounder. The GP-4000s II has really opened the model up to a much wider audience by adding the new variations in size and colour. Although the reputation that precedes it means they come at a cost with an RRP of £49.95. But shopping around will mean you can probably expect to save in the region of 30% online at the time of this review, from the likes of Chain Reaction Cycles and Wiggle.

A Touch Of Colour

The Colour options are a nice touch. Many people believe road bike tyres should be black and that is all. However, for people who want to add a little colour to their rubber, Continental have added a good range of options to suit most. The chosen colour sits as a stripe around the inner edge of the tyre wall, just above the wheel rim. We tested the Black/Reflex option which adds a thin reflective strip around the tyre wall. These are ideal for commuting with a 28mm or training and racing alike [if you ride with a 25mm]. Sadly all of the other colour options only seem to come in a 23 mm but this should suit most riders.

Continental GP4000s II review Conclusion

So the Continental Tyres website states that their technology is constantly evolving and the Continental GP4000s II is an updated version of the GP4000s. We loved the previous tyre, there was something reassuringly satisfying about it. The concern with the new version was always going to be, have they changed to much in a bid to make it better? We are pleased to say 'it appears not'! These tyres remain very fast, very grippy [technical term], and so far very hard wearing. The new colours and sizes can move these tyres from just being considered as a performance clincher, to being popular with commuters and social weekend riders as well. Yes their RRP is high but savings of around 30% or even 35% for twin packs should make them hard to resist when you need to think about replacements. The question now will be how will the competition respond?

How much do Continental GP4000s II 25mm weigh?

Weighing in at a mere 225 grams, and offering high levels of durability, it is clear why this tyre has adorned so many professional cyclist's bikes.

What is the tire pressure for the Continental Grand Prix 4000s II 25mm?

It felt they were tighter than the GP4000s II tyre to fit and as with most clincher tyres, strong thumbs were required. The recommended inflation for the 25mm is 95psi with a max of 120psi.

What is the pressure on the Continental 4000 28mm?

Even though the 28C GP4000S has a maximum inflation pressure of 115 psi, measurements were taken at pressures of 120, 100, 80 and 60 psi.

What is Continental Grand Prix 5000?

GP5000: The Gold-Standard For Road Tires The German tire manufacturer focused specifically on the two problematic areas of the GP4000s — cornering grip and puncture protection. With their added tech in both these departments, the GP5000 rises above all other comparable clinchers.
