Does anyone know how I can do that. iPad, iOS 5.1.1 Posted on Nov 3, 2013 9:50 PM Helpful answersQuestion marked as Apple recommended Jan 12, 2014 7:06 AM in response to shar_rays In response to shar_rays My daughter had this same problem when setting up apps on the 1gen iPad I gave to her. We tried this last night and it worked. 1. Open Itunes on your laptop ( should work on PC, but I don't know) 2. Go to Apps & Download the Facebook app. Make sure the app has downloaded. 3. Sync your iPad to your laptop (PC) 4. If the app is not on your iPad after syncing, go to the App Store on your IPad and download the Facebook app. When attempting to download you should get the message asking if you want to download the latest compatible version. We also did this to download the compatible iBooks app. Hope this helps. Jan 12, 2014 7:06 AM
Nov 3, 2013 10:21 PM in response to shar_rays In response to shar_rays You can access FaceBook website from the mobile Safari web browser using this link. https://www.facebook.com/ OR you can download the dedicated iOS FaceBook app from the App Store app on your iPad. Launch
the App Store by tapping on the App Store button and do a search for FaceBook for iPad. Good Luck! Nov 3, 2013 10:21 PM Nov 3, 2013 10:33 PM in response to MichelPM In response to MichelPM Actually, the FB app version is no longer compatible with IOS 5.1.1. So, you cannot use the dedicated app with your iPad 1. You need to use FB's own website. Sorry. Nov 3, 2013 10:33 PM Nov 4, 2013 4:27 AM in response to shar_rays In response to shar_rays There may also be third party facebook apps that can work. Honestly, given as many people that complain about the Facebook app crashing, simply accessing it via safari may be the best. That's how I do it and I have no real issues. I believe there is also m.facebook.com which is the mobile site. Nov 4, 2013 4:27 AM Nov 18, 2013 11:46 AM in response to shar_rays In response to shar_rays I had this problem with an iPad that I had been using that I reset for my mother-in-law to use. As I'd previously backed it up to my Macbook, I synced it with the Facebook app selected as the only item to sync and it works fine now. I figured i had to find a new way to use them. For those of you who likes the "real" facebook, If you go to www.facebook.com from your safari, you'll have a hard time but, m.facebook.com is a lot more fluid, easier to fit in the iPad. What I strongly recommend is for you to download Flipboard app. You just have to sync your Facebook and Twitter account and then you can acces your feed in a new, beautiful and fluid way, like you were reading a magazine or a newspaper. As for any other apps i tried, everything was fine, so before switching to a newer Ipad, just try those simple alternate way, which just gave my ipad 1 a lifetime extension. Dec 31, 2013 11:28 AM Jan 1, 2014 4:59 PM in response to Stru87 In response to Stru87 This seems to be a glitch which is specific to the 1st generation iPad. have an iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1 and I just downloaded the Facebook app using the "last compatible version" feature which was introduced in September, 2013. A lot of people have reported this problem on the Facebook help page, so maybe now it will get some attention. Jan 1, 2014 4:59 PM Jan 1, 2014 5:08 PM in response to mackerm In response to mackerm
It's not going to get much attention. The app developers determine which iOS version their apps will run on. Facebook made the decision to no longer support earlier iOS versions. There are workarounds as have been mentioned above, but don't expect any real change on this. Jan 1, 2014 5:08 PM Jan 2, 2014 6:26 PM in response to shar_rays In response to shar_rays I had this problem too, and found the solution in another thread so thought I'd cross-post. The "legacy" (archived) versions of apps are only downloadable if you have already "bought" the app (even if it's free). When I first tried to download the facebook app it told me only that I couldn't do this because it's only compatible with iOS 6+. Following advice I found on this other thread, I used my Apple ID to "buy" the current version of the app, downloading it onto my computer in the app store. Then I tried to download the app again from the iPad. This time, along with the warning about iOS 6+, it offered to allow me to download the latest compatible version. Bingo!
