Koreans are known for their innovative skincare – but let’s face it, some of the beauty trends emerging from South Korea are a little bonkers.

But while it’s a firm no from me when it comes to face plunging and nose squeezing, there are a few amazing products that have emerged and are now hitting Aussie shores.

Here are some of my favourite newbies, some of which sound a little strange, but trust me – you’ll love them.

JELLY KO BUBBLE TEA STEAM CREAM

Available at stylestory.com.au

Price: $48

You know the iced teas with the little balls of tapioca in them? Well now you can get in a cream form for your face and it is surprisingly hydrating. While it’s called a jelly, it has more of a thick cream consistency that dissipates upon application – similar to the pearls you find at the bottom of your bubble tea. It also smells just like the popular Asian drink with an added hint of coconut that is pleasantly subtle. While the texture is quite creamy, it applies light so you don’t need too much product when using. It’s been branded as the “world’s first bubble tea skincare” and contains some major K-beauty power ingredients including, Niacinamide, which is touted to help manage acne, rosacea, pigmentation and wrinkles, skin-smoothing adenosine and calming beta glucan. It also has pearl which exfoliates the skin’s surface as well as known-moisturiser and skin healing vitamin E. It’s also free from sulfates, mineral oils, parabens, PEGs and EDTA, making it perfect for sensitive skin as well as the dry and normal varieties.

DFINE CHIN LIFTING MASK

Available at dfineworld.com

Price: $39.99 (for pack of 3)

This brand spanking new Aussie brand has created a non-surgical option to fixing droopy jowls that was inspired by a K-beauty trend that’s gone gangbusters overseas this year. While you may roll your eyes at the thought of having another flaw with our faces to fix (I know I did) these are pretty fun to try – but do they actually tighten and sculpt your jawline? Quite possibly. The stretchy mask goes across the bottom half of your face, from under your nose to under the chin, and hooks on your ears to keep it in place. The mask itself contains some well-known hydrating skincare ingredients, including hydrolyzed collagen and glycerin. After wearing for 30 minutes, I definitely felt like my chin looked firmer and less saggy.

On Instagram there are some impressive before and after snaps – but as far as I can see, there’s no scientific evidence behind chin lifting masks. While I can’t explain why or how it works, it does – but only temporarily. So I’d use one of these chin masks before a big event or a special occasion as it would work out too time heavy and expensive to do one a few nights a week. Plus, if you’ve never done a chin masks before, they’re a bit of a laugh too and sure to give you and your mates a giggle on a girly night in.

INNISFREE SUPER VOLCANIC PORE CLAY MASK 2X

Available at innisfree stores and adorebeauty.com.au

Price: $22

There’s a reason this clay mask has scooped 22 awards in the past 10 years – because it’s bloody brilliant. This is the updated formula on the K-beauty brand’s cult-buy, which is meant to be twice as powerful at absorbing skins excess oil. It’s really easy to use and doesn’t crack too quickly like a lot of other clay masks can. After 10 minutes I washed it off and was pleasantly surprised at how soft and smooth my skin felt – you definitely don’t get that tight, suffocated feeling that some products give you. Best of all, my face was visibly oil-free and stayed that way for hours after use. It’s like a magic sponge had not only absorbed the oil sitting on my skin, but also temporarily halted production of it too. It also removed some of my blackheads and made the pores around my nose smaller. Not bad for a cheap product – would definitely use this over and over.

SULWHASOO CONCENTRATED GINSENG RENEWING SERUM

Available at Sephora

Price: $272

Before you kill me for recommending a serum that costs as much as a week’s rent for some people, I need to justify myself by stating I didn’t know how expensive it was when I fell in love with it. Recently Sulwhasoo invited me to have a play with some of its products and sent me home with everything I needed to give myself an 8-step facial at home. While I’ve been seriously impressed with all the items I’ve been testing, this one stands out by a long way. When you pump the golden serum onto your palm, you can see it has tiny white beads flickered through it that are heat-sensitive capsules of ginseng seed oil. This serum is very light and literally disappears on application, giving an instantly brighter and glowier complexion. It also has a non-sticky finish that works well under make-up and gives a similar smooth finish you’d find in a primer. But what truly makes this magic is the visible anti-ageing benefits that ginseng – which has a spicy tea-like scent – has long been hailed for in Asian countries. While I don’t have too many wrinkles yet, I am developing fine lines around my eyes and the corner of my mouth. I also am a known sufferer of the dreaded eye-bag. After using this serum I noticed my under eyes were much less puffy and inflamed. Everything about this serum is next level – it even feels luxury just applying it. So while it costs a small fortune and my bank balance is devastated I found, I will be splurging on it again in the future.

LANEIGE LIP SLEEPING MASK

Available at Sephora

Price: $28

I know I’ve banged on about this K-beauty product before, but it really is amazing – and everyone who I’ve sent through the doors at Sephora to part with almost $30 for what is essentially a lip balm thankfully agrees with me. This is a majorly hyped up beauty product that absolutely lives up to the claims. It solved my dry, flaky lip problem in just a few days and replaced it with plump, soft lips. As a result, this lip mask is now something I cannot go a night without using. Recently, it came out in a new “mint choco” variety which has a zingy affect on application. As I said before, it may sound totally ridiculous, but this sleep mask is worth every cent – you will not be disappointed.
