On the surface, there aren’t too many changes from 2022 to 2023 Ford Ranger pickup truck, as North America awaits the arrival of the all-new, P703N Ford Ranger for the 2024 model year. The folks over at the Ranger6G forum shared the order guide to peruse, only to find a couple of small changes to come in the new model year, primarily appearance package related. We also find the American destined Ranger receives more change-ups than its Canadian cousin.

Both Rangers still sport three trim levels; XL,XLT, and Lariat all of which will be offered in a supercrew/supercab configuration with available two and four wheel drive in America and only four-wheel drive in Canada. As far as power plants go, the only available option is the 2.3L Ecoboost engine with a 10-speed transmission.

The 2023 Ranger does come in some new colors; Azure Gray Metallic Tri-coat, and Eruption Green Metallic, the same one we’ve seen on the Bronco. The Eruption Green is a required paint color when choosing the new “Splash Jungle edition.” Deleted from the 2023 Ranger color palette are Avalanche, Cyber Orange, Desert Sand, and Forged Green. The Ford Ranger Splash Snow, Sand, and Forest packages have been deleted as well. The Ford Ranger Tremor remains on deck for the 2023 model year. As far as Canadian Rangers go, it only removes Cyber Orange from its color options and adds only Azure Gray.

Other changes include new dealer installed options like door sill plates,a floor safe (supercrew only) and a center console safe, side window deflectors, roadside assistance and first aid kits, as well as a pivot storage box. Both the XL and XL STX packages receive halogen fog lamps. Lastly Ford removes the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot ability when the option isn’t made available due to chip shortage.

The 2023 Ford Ranger will likely continue using the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and 10-speed automatic transmission that’s in the 2022 Ranger. Output for the turbo 2.3-liter engine is 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Diesel engine options and a manual transmission will be available on the global version of the Ranger. However, these options are unlikely to be offered in the U.S.

The towing capacity for the 2023 Ranger will likely be the same as the 2022 Ranger, which has a maximum towing capacity of 7,500 pounds. On the off-roading front, a Ranger Raptor model is expected to have the same twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 engine that’s in the Ford Bronco.

The redesigned 2023 Ford Ranger looks like a larger version of the Ford Maverick compact pickup truck. It has similar bold wheel arches and C-shaped LED headlights as the Maverick, with an added side step behind the wheel arches. Also, compared to the 2022 Ranger, the redesigned 2023 Ranger is slightly larger, with a 2-inch increase for both the wheelbase and track width. This size increase should improve the ride quality of the Ranger.

The aging interior and infotainment system of the 2022 Ranger is in need of an upgrade, so the redesigned interior of the 2023 Ranger is a welcome improvement. The 2023 Ranger will have a choice of a standard 10.1-inch touchscreen or an optional vertically-orientated 12.0-inch version. Both of the touchscreens will operate the SYNC 4 infotainment system, which can control drive modes and display off-road modes.

Also, the 2023 Ranger will offer an available wireless charging pad for smartphones. Furthermore, the redesigned Ranger adds more cargo space under the rear seats and in the doors.

With the redesign and upgrades, the 2023 Ranger should be a more competitive model against other midsize trucks, such as the Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, and Nissan Frontier.
