What is the minimum requirement of GHz for the processor for Windows Server?

Here are the system requirements for installing Oracle Endeca Information Discovery, including WebLogic Server, on a single Windows machine.

RequirementDetailsHardwareMinimum hardware requirements:

  • x64 processor, minimum 1.8 GHz
  • At least 2 GB of RAM, depending on the size of the application data set
  • 80 GB hard drive, depending on the size of the application data set

Recommended hardware requirements:

  • x64 3.0+ GHz processors; we recommend Intel Xeon (including Nehalem) or AMD Opteron processors
  • 8 GB of RAM or more, depending on the size of the application data set
  • High performance network-attached storage (for example, attached via a dedicated iSCSI or fibre channel network) or high performance locally-attached RAID storage (for example, a RAID 6 or RAID 0+1 array with battery-backed write caching, operating on 72GB or 146 GB spindles at 10k or 15k RPM spindle speed)
  • Gigabit Ethernet

Note: In this guide, the term "x64" refers to any processor compatible with the AMD64/EM64T architecture. You might need to upgrade your hardware, depending on the data you are processing.

All run-time code must fit entirely in RAM. Likewise, hard disk capacity must be sufficient based on the size of your data set.

Operating systemWindows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise running on x64 processors.

Because this is a development environment, you can also install on Windows 7. For a production environment, Windows 7 would not be supported.

For improved performance, we recommend turning off hyper-threading.

Disk spaceWebLogic and Oracle Endeca Server have the following disk sizes after installation:
  • Oracle WebLogic Server: 425 MB
  • Oracle Application Development Runtime: 1024 MB
  • Oracle Endeca Server: 475 MB

The total disk size of the entire installation is approximately 1.9 GB.

Each installation program uses a temporary directory into which they extract the files necessary to install the software on the target system. During the installation process, your temporary directory must contain sufficient space to accommodate these files.

As a general guideline, the files in the temporary directory require approximately 2.5 times the space that is ultimately required for each installation.

System performance may vary depending on the hardware specifications, operating system, and tuning parameters. • Microsoft® Windows® Server 2019
  • Microsoft® Windows® Server 2016
  • Microsoft® Windows® Server 2012 Standard (64-bit)
  • Microsoft® Windows® Server 2012 R2
  • Microsoft® Windows® 10 IoT
  • Microsoft® Windows® 10
  • Microsoft® Windows® 8.1 Professional (32-bit or 64-bit)

Note:

  • Historian Collectors work as 32-bit applications on a 64-bit Windows operating systems using WoW64 mode (Windows-on-Windows 64-bit). However, you can read and write data from a 64-bit Historian Server.
  • RAM and Disk Size required may vary based on the collectors available on the system.
  • Recommended number of tags per collector is 20 to 30K.
  • For iFIX systems, count each Node.Tag.Field (NTF) as a separate tag when you determine the size of the system. For example, FIX.FIC101.F_CV and FIX.FIC101.B_CUALM (current alarm) both count as tags, even though they are derived from the same iFIX tag.

Microsoft Windows Server

Many desktop-class computers are not certified to run Windows. Check the Microsoft website and your computer hardware vendor website for possible conflicts between your hardware and Windows server. These specifications are sufficient to meet the needs of a small pilot application. However, production system requirements may be significantly different depending on many application-specific factors. Please contact your product manager to review the requirements of your application.

For students, our recommendations and minimum system requirements are meant to provide general guidelines on which computer configurations work best in the UMass Amherst computing environment. Different recommended and minimum configurations are available for faculty and staff. They focus on hardware specifications of the device. For free or discounted software please check our downloads page. If you have declared a major, we recommend checking with the department to see if it requires specific computer configurations. Note: This online document is where you will find the most accurate recommendations. Any print materials you have could be out-of-date.

Sustainability

We recommend models of computers that have at least an EPEAT Silver rating (preferably EPEAT Gold). These computers meet the latest ENERGY STAR specifications and are designed to be easily recycled. Learn more about the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).

Tablet Computers

Tablets are of growing interest in the classroom environment and are an innovative method for note-taking. When paired with a keyboard, tablets that meet the above requirements are sometimes even used as a replacement for a laptop. New tablet computers come with Windows, iOS or Android operating systems. Capabilities and the number of programs available depend on the operating system choice and the hardware of the device. Consult with your academic advisor if you are unsure about the need for a tablet in your field of study. Microsoft OneNote software for tablet computers is available for free through the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching program for Windows based tablets.
