Honkai: Star Rail's version 1.3 update introduces two new playable characters from The Xianzhou Luofu, namely Dan Heng - Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan, both of whom players have previously encountered during their Trailblazer's journey in this world. Consequently, players might already have a favorite character in mind to pull for, based on their individual characteristics. However, when it comes to the gameplay aspects, there's more complexity than initially meets the eye, and making a decision may not be as straightforward as it seems.

Fortunately for players, in this version, making the decision might be easier than in previous versions that introduced characters with similar roles. Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan serve entirely different functions and belong to different elements. Consequently, players are generally advised to base their decision on their current character roster and consider various factors related to their specific gameplay preferences. This approach can help players conserve resources, particularly if they plan to summon for other upcoming characters in near future version updates of Honkai: Star Rail.

Imbibitor Lunae Or Fu Xuan In Honkai: Star Rail

It's reassuring to know that both characters are valuable additions to players' character rosters, thanks to their unique abilities and strengths. However, in this version update, even with the abundance of Stellar Jade available, players who invested their sources in the previous patch to obtain Kafka or Blade may find themselves short on resources to summon both Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan. Nevertheless, since Imbibitor Lunae focuses on a DPS-oriented playstyle while Fu Xuan primarily serves as a defensive-oriented support character, players can make their decision based on which role aligns better with their gameplay preferences.

Furthermore, it's important to note that both of these characters come with their own strengths and weaknesses. Players should pay attention to these aspects to maximize the potential of the character they choose to pull for.

Roles

Imbibitor Lunae is an Imaginary-type Destruction path character, specializing in both single-target and AoE DPS through his enhanced basic attacks, a feature shared with Blade. However, Imbibitor Lunae brings a unique playstyle to the table. Players can choose to enhance their basic attacks up to three times, resulting in a substantial increase in damage with impressively high modifiers. It's worth noting that enhancing his basic attacks comes at a cost, as it requires spending a Skill Point for each enhancement. Fortunately, Imbibitor Lunae possesses an additional mechanic that grants him Squama Sacrosancta stacks after using his Technique or Ultimate. These stacks can be used in lieu of Skill Points to enhance his basic attacks, allowing players to manage this resource more efficiently. Consequently, with these manageable high modifiers and the distinction of being the first Imaginary element DPS character, Imbibitor Lunae offers players a new way to deal with significant Imaginary DMG.

Fu Xuan, in contrast to Imbibitor Lunae, doesn't possess significant DPS potential. However, she excels in providing substantial support capabilities. As a Quantum Preservation character, her primary focus is on defensive gameplay. Unlike other Preservation characters like March 7th or Gepard, who create shields for themselves or allies, Fu Xuan takes a different approach. She mitigates a certain percentage of the damage received from all allies and then absorbs this damage herself. Moreover, her Matrix of Prescience state, activated through her Skill, which enables this mitigation and damage distribution, offers additional benefits. During this state, allies gain the ability to resist crowd control debuffs, and Fu Xuan boosts the max HP of all allies while also increasing their Crit Rate. Additionally, with her Ultimate, Fu Xuan can deal AoE damage while simultaneously healing herself and her allies. Taking all of these aspects into account, Fu Xuan not only functions as a Preservation character but also exhibits elements of Harmony and Abundance to some extent.

Builds

The optimal builds for both characters do have some reliance on luck, but players will be pleased to know that they can be customized in various ways to suit their needs and team compositions, offering significant versatility.

For Imbibitor Lunae, players can choose between a 2-piece set of Wastelander of Banditry Desert and a 2-piece set of Musketeer of Wild Wheat, or even go for the 4-piece versions of these sets, depending on their luck with main and sub-stats and their specific team compositions. For instance, those planning to assemble a mono Imaginary team may find the 4-piece Wastelander of Banditry Desert set more valuable. However, if they already have sufficient Crit Rate and Crit Damage values, mixing with other sets might prove more beneficial.

Regarding planar ornaments, Imbibitor Lunae is best equipped with "Rutilant Arena." While this ornament requires a 70% Crit Rate on the wearer to unlock additional benefits, Imbibitor Lunae's inherent Crit Rate from his traces, as well as certain Destruction light cones that can contribute to this requirement, make it a feasible feat to achieve. Consequently, players who have previously acquired suitable pieces from these sets can efficiently build him quickly and easily.

Fu Xuan, in contrast, requires a distinct set of relics and light cones due to her scaling with HP rather than the DEF stat like other Preservation characters. This means players can't simply swap out their gear for her. However, this difference doesn't necessarily present a downside since Fu Xuan has access to viable sets such as the 4-piece "Guard of Wuthering Snow." This set not only reduces the damage Fu Xuan takes but also restores her HP and Energy. Alternatively, players can opt for a 2-piece of this set combined with a 2-piece "Longevous Disciple." Those who have been farming the "Genius of Brilliant Stars" for Seele or suitable pieces for Blade may find it relatively easy to build Fu Xuan as well.

For planar ornaments, Fu Xuan boasts more versatility compared to Imbibitor Lunae. She can equip a variety of support-oriented pieces, with "Broken Keel" or "Fleet of the Ageless" being the primary contenders. Fu Xuan also has access to a range of light cones that enhance her support capabilities for the team.
