Test-Optional Virginia Colleges And Universities

On another page, I answered questions about test-optional policies. As a Virginia counselor and tutor, I went through the policies for Virginia colleges/universities to determine which colleges were test-optional and which ones required ACT/SAT scores. I will continue to update this as more colleges/universities update their policies. A special thank you to FairTest.org for the timeline.

Of Note: Temporary Means that the Virginia College/University was test-optional for the pandemic but has yet to make a final decision on whether the policy will continue or if ACT/SAT scores are required

Does class of 2024 need SAT?

The University of California Regents, for example, voted in May 2020 to suspend SAT and ACT testing requirements through 2024 and eliminate them altogether for California students in 2025. This movement has not been without controversy.

What colleges are test optional for Class of 2024?

Highly selective universities including The Ivy League, Stanford, Northwestern, and Boston University, all have announced that they will remain test optional through the high school class of 2024.

Is VT requiring SAT for 2023?

At this point, we are recommending that the high school class of 2023 (current 11th graders/rising seniors) still consider taking the ACT or SAT, but whether or not they submit their scores should depend on test availability and personal performance.

Does UVA require SAT 2024?

UVA will NOT require that applicants submit standardized testing to be considered for admission for at least the next application cycle. If you have test scores, you are welcome to submit them, but those without test scores will not be penalized during our holistic review of applications.
